Enough Waiting, Start Acting

Everyone has a dream or dreams, yet none of them will become a reality until we start doing something to achieve what we want. It is called taking action. A dream without an action can create an internal happiness, but that illusion will not last for a long time if there are no actions. On the other hand, an action without a dream or a goal will take us nowhere. It is like driving a car without knowing where you are going, you will reach a destination but it will not be a desired one. Knowing where you want to be is essential before any action is taken, before that comes Knowing where you are. To take an action is to decide to move a step further towards your goal.

Don’t wait for miracles to happen to you, you are the miracle. And if someone was able to reach where you want to be, why not you as well. It is OK to wait for a while, to question your dreams and desires, but don’t wait for too long. Life will continue anyway and nothing in the universe will be waiting for you forever, start acting. Chances don’t wait as well. if you have time and energy to act and work to get what you want then you better start doing that,  you might not be able to allocate the same amount of time and energy if you waited longer.

Everyone has a dream but few of them do actions to achieve them. So what are the reasons that are stopping many people from acting towards achieving what they believe is their goal and dream? Well I think there are six reasons why many people are Dreamful but Actionless:

  1. They are afraid of failure
  2. They are afraid of leaving their comfort zone
  3. They don’t know how to start
  4. They have bad habits.
  5. They are facing many obstacles.
  6. They don’t know what they are passionate about.

The Real Self-Worth

lion-in-mirror2

If personal growth is a human body, then self-worth is the heart to that body. Self-worth determines the speed as well as the duration of the desired personal growth. I say this simply because you attract to your life the thoughts and the people who match your perceived self-worth. And let me here distinguish between the perceived self-worth and actual self-worth.

Yes, every one of us has these two selves: actual and perceived. Perceived self-worth is the value we give ourselves based on our experiences, relationships, what others say about us, and other outside perspectives. Actual self-worth is who we truly are. In an ideal situation, Perceived Self-worth matches Actual Self-worth. Any differences between those two values of self-worth can lead to problems that will slow Personal Growth. What is more interesting than that, people we surround our self with and the thoughts we allow into our minds are what determine our choices. As a result, we attract to our lives the choices that match our perceived self-worth.

The first step towards improving your self-worth is to know yourself. You can’t improve yourself if you don’t know what level you are at right now. Regardless of what you think about yourself, “You are what you think”. If you think you can then you can, and if you believe you can’t, then you can’t. I am talking about achieving, almost anything in this life. If people underestimate themselves or feel Worthless, then it will be hard for them to achieve their goals. Feeling Worthless can undermine personal growth like nothing else.

It is understandable that many people feel like they are stuck in their lives and feel like they are not going anywhere. However, that feeling should not lead those people to think less of them self or feel like they are worthless. Personal growth depends on an individual perceived self-worth, if that worth is low then Personal growth will be low. A person who love himself can reach higher level of personal growth than a person who love himself less.

Knowing yourself is the first step to discovering your real worth. However, knowing yourself is not enough. While knowing yourself, you have to recognize whatever is holding you back and take the responsibility to change. Recognizing the issue is the first step towards knowing your self-worth. I wrote about the importance of recognizing who you are in the past, check it out.

Knowing How to Reach Your Destination

The-plane-flying-at-sunset-airliner-photography_1920x1080

In my previous post, I stated that personal growth can be triggered by knowing three things. These things are knowing where you atKnowing where you want to be, and how to get to there. In this post, I will be touching on the subject of going from where you are to where you want to be. It is a process that has a start and has an end, another start and another end, and so on.

Deciding what areas to focus on can be critical at this stage. If you answered the two questions, where you are and where you want to be, then you know what areas you would want to focus on such as relationships, money, or personal issues. What I suggest, is to start working on your weaknesses first. I said that simply because dealing with your weaknesses first can enhance your personal growth much more than focusing on your strengths. Moreover, your strengths can be overwhelmed by your weaknesses. Think about it.

The first step is the hardest step. Once you start moving toward where you want to be, then you should be aware of what is in front of you. The first step is what you will be facing first. That can be the first book to read and summarize, the first cigarette to reject, the first session at the gym, or the first million dollar to make. Hence, the first step can be short or long, a few minutes or a few years, regardless of its length or difficulty, it is something you have to go through and pass because your success depends on passing it.

According to the law of diminishing return, things will get easier with time. You become aware of doing them, you have more knowledge, and your goal is clearer. The hardest sessions at the gym are the first ones, the hardest cigarettes to reject are the first ones, and the hardest millions to make are the first ones. Things become easier after that and what was a challenge at the beginning will becomes a normal thing to do. What was a dream yesterday became today’s reality.

After you passed the first step, the second one is to be consistent. By starting the first step now you know what going toward your destination feels like and how much effort it takes. Consistency is what will take you to where you want to be. Small steps every day are better than nothing. As long as you know where you are, what you want, and you are consistent with what you are doing, then you will reach your destination, no doubt.

Tell me your experience with the first step. Share this post and follow me on Twitter for more posts like this one.

Knowing Your Destination

When I wrote My introduction to the topic of Personal Growth I said that knowing yourself is the most important element in the process to that desired growth. The second in importance is knowing where you want to be. Once you knew yourself-which includes knowing your strengths and weaknesses-then the next step is to know where you are heading to. Setting goals and going after them is an important part of personal growth; however, where you want to be is a question of a direction rather than fixed points.

What are your goals? let’s not get confused between Goals and Personal growth. Personal growth consists of different goals that lead all together toward a desired result. For example, if your goal is to make money then you are planning to grow the financial part of your personal growth. Financial growth by itself will not lead to a personal growth unless it is combined with other things that will add value to you personally. And since we are different, what we want to be is different as well. Therefore, the process of personal growth toward that desired direction is different for each one of us. For that reason, “where you want to be” should be supported by a vision. And that vision is based on the Core-Values for each one of us.

Bellow I suggested some parts of a desired stage that can be reached through personal growth. And by reaching a desired stage you want to be in a position where you have:

  1. Inner peace
  2. Eliminated your weaknesses
  3. Solidified your strengths
  4. Reached a financial stability
  5. A rich/valuable network.
  6. A good influence on others.

This list can be longer and should be different from one person to another. In my future posts I will be writing about each one of these six elements.

Knowing Yourself and Where You at

1

As I wrote in the previous post, personal growth consists of three elements. These elements are knowing yourself, knowing where you want to be, and knowing how to get to there. Knowing your self is the first element and this is what I am going to write about in this post.

The importance of knowing yourself comes from the fact that it is the starting point for everything to come after. Everything to come later will depend on the first step “knowing yourself”. If you fail to know who you are then you will fail to reach where you want to be. Personally, I don’t mind spending a long period of time at this stage until I reach satisfying results.

I know, knowing yourself is not an easy task like it seems to be. When I said “knowing yourself” I’m not talking about your likes or dislikes or your favorite food and places. I am talking about what is deep inside you, what makes you think and react the way you do every day.  I know also that knowing everything about yourself can be impossible no matter how hard you try. However, the more you know yourself the easier it will be for you to know your destination (where you want to be). The more you know yourself the higher the results will be. There are three elements which I think will help to get anyone closer to knowing themselves.

First, Wake up and notice what is going wrong. Observe your life, is everything going OK? Can you sense anything going wrong? We tend to feel uncomfortable when things are not going our way or not going as we expected them to go, are you feeling that? Observing your life is an important step toward Self-awakening.

Second, discover your Core Values. Observing your life will get you closer to knowing and understanding your core values. Your core values should be the base of all other values in your life. Your values can be wealth, honesty, power.. etc. There are some tests and websites that can help you to determine your core values, use them. Your core values are what define you, so find out what are they.

Third, Your strengths and weaknesses. Your strengths are the things that create value for yourself such as being hard worker, good speaker and so on. Weaknesses are the things that take out some of your value such as being greedy, untrustworthy, and ignorant. You cannot get to know yourself if you don’t know your strengths and weaknesses. So if you don’t know your strengths and weaknesses it will be difficult for you to know yourself and where you are at this point of your life. Go and find out what are your strengths and weaknesses are.

Thoughts About Personal Growth

Welcome to my blog. As a person who has studied Economics, the question of growth has always interested me. Countries grow when the amount of goods and services increase from one year to another. I wanted to take the same concept of a nation’s growth and apply it to individuals, me specifically. This growth, on personal level, is called Personal Growth. To be more specific, personal growth is the value you add to yourself during a specific period of time.

I have wondered how a person can enhance his/her personal growth and ways for that personal growth to be sustained for a long period of time. So I came up with an answer, personal growth can be enhanced and sustained for a long period of time if the person knows three key elements. It is very essential for a person seeking personal growth to know exactly where they are, where they want to be, and how to get to there. I know that sounds very simple but believe me, defining each one of these elements might not be as simple as it seems.

I will be writing about each one of these elements in separate posts but let me give a short note about each one of them. Who I am? Is the starting point. It is where a person try to define themselves and know their strength and weaknesses. Wants and needs. It is where a person’s values are defined. Although many people claim to know them self, it is important to be sure that what you know about yourself is true and accurate. Where I want to be? Is a question of destiny, dream, and goals. Being aware of what you want is an important element of personal growth. Personal growth cannot be triggered if you have not defined where you want to be.

The third element is how to get to there. This element includes all the tools, means, and skills you need to have to move from where you are to where you want to be. once those two elements, where I am and where I want to be, are figured out then the next step is to determine what possible tools and skills will help you to go from where you are to where you want to be in efficient and effective ways.

With that being said, the growth can be fast or slow. It all depends on you and your awareness of your self-worth. Knowing your exact Self-worth is what determine the speed of your personal growth. If you believe your worth is high then your personal growth will be faster than if you believe your self-worth is low. I will be writing more about Self-worth on another post. In the next few posts I will be writing about how we can discover who we are and where we want to be.
